It took me all but 24 hrs to find the local surf community in Atenas. It turned out that one of the realtors that we used, Andrew Partian with Remax, is a surfer. He ended up putting us in to this great house, and the owner of the house Sebastain is a surfer as well. Sebastains wife is a tica and her brother in law is a surfer. His friend Roberto and another guy named Mike are both surfers and they all live in Atenas. All of these guys are buddies and hit up the beach with their families on Sundays, and the occasional dawn patrol sessions during the week.
Lyndsey took Eli to the local Balneario el Cerro (local pool) last Sunday which gave me a hall pass to go surfing with my new bud’s. The swell on the pacific side was a little small, so we hit up a beach break about a 30 minute drive south of Playa Hermosa called Playa Bejuco. The waves were actually pretty fun, and got better as the tide filled in. After the surf we watched the sunset and then hit up the hour and a half ride back up the mountain to Atenas.
